The Wedding Dance Floor: What to Know Before You Hire Yours

The wedding dance floor cannot come back soon enough in our opinion, here’s how to make sure yours is full all night long!

There are many things we have all missed during our multiple lockdowns here in the UK. But as things slowly start to approach normality, and weddings are beginning to happen again, we cannot help but long for a very simply luxury that we know our couples in particular are missing right now. The wedding dance floor.

There’s something not quite right about a wedding without a dance floor. Synonymous with each other, and a joy when they are planned just right, and full of your closest friends and family.

Some couples will be fortunate enough to have a dance floor already fitted at their wedding venue, but for others they will need to hire theirs for the day. The prospect of this can be confusing for many, as it can be hard to work out just what needs to be considered. At Diamond Circle Weddings, we are experts in portable wedding dance floors, and so we thought we’d share some top tips on how to choose the right floor for your special occasion.

Everything You Need to Know About Hiring the Perfect Wedding Dance Floor

Where will the dance floor go?

The first, pivotal decision you need to make, is where will this dance floor go in your wedding venue. Are you hosting your reception inside, or out? Do you want the dance floor to be central to the whole day, in the middle of your seated areas? Or do you want it at the end of the room? If outside, is there a suitable flat surface for it to rest on?

All the above needs to be decided early on, and possibly talked through with your wedding planner/venue, and/or wedding dance floor supplier. Especially if you’re planning on dancing the night away outside, as another layer of flooring may be needed to go underneath the dance floor to level it out.

Get the Sizing Right

The size of your dance floor is key if you want it full of wedding guests. Choose a space that is too big, and you may end up with large empty areas and nervous guests not wanting to fill them. Vice versa, a dance floor that is too small will make your loved ones feel overcrowded.

If you take nothing else away from this post, let it be this top tip – 50% of your wedding guests will actually be on the dance floor at one time. So, you should base its predicted capacity from that magic number. For instance, if you have 200 guests at your reception, it’s likely that no more than 100 will be on the floor at one time.

If this is the first time you are looking to hire a wedding dance floor, make sure to ask a professional to help you in choosing the right size for your specific event.

Choose the Right Style for Your Big Day

Every wedding doesn’t look the same, and therefore not every dance floor is equal. Style your floor to match your theme, and aim to tie it in to the overall aesthetic of your big day. As the dance floor plays a major role (space-wise) at your reception, you don’t want it to be off-putting or look out-of-place back dropped against the rest of your style choices.

When it comes to the wedding dance floor, you have plenty of options, from chequered, wood, LED, light up squares – and many more besides. Keeping the above in mind, consider your style first, and then your budget too, as the more sophisticated the dance floor, the bigger the dent it will make in your budget.

Ask for a Free Quote

Knowing the cost of your chosen dance floor style and size is important, but it may not actually be the final cost. Find out what the entire process will work out at, before you make any hasty decisions. The delivery, installation and breakdown are not always included in wedding dance floor pricing, so be sure to ask beforehand.

That is why we offer a free quote to our prospective clients, so we can be as transparent as possible and not leave you with any nasty surprises.
